Ugh, finally the long time of stress and busyness is over. Reload was the last event on the line for this string. So I obviously missed some releases over here, I’m sorry for that.
But let’s focus on Reload instead!
Reload is a 3 day/2 night LAN festival held in Riihimäki. It’s run by the people in my school, HAMK. This time I was just a spectator too. I just simply didn’t have enough time to participate in the process this time.
The event was just perfect this time! Unfortunately my classmates were just kinda out of it for this time. Hopefully it changes next time.
I guess I played Dirt 3 the most during the event. It worked so well that I just wanted to drive more and more.
And I joined in some compos! First of all, the Dirt 3 compo, which I managed to even win this time. Same happened with the lego competition. In the ĂĽbermegawild compo I guess I was second. See the film below!
And then I joined the music compo (obviously), which I managed to win once again. I decided to go for a more melodic entry this time, since the last one kinda didn’t work out too well with the speakers.
Oh, and I managed to blow up the speakers during my DJ set. You’ll get to download it very soon.
Once again, I’m presenting something new! This time go to Africa. Sahara is a dry place. Not much will survive there. So what genre would be more fitting for the theme than hardcore. Not much to say this time, just listen to the song already!
3 weeks of hard work to create the song. Was it worth it? Hell yeah!
First of all, the video for the song:
I started this project for an arts club. I was the host this time, so I got to pick the theme too. I chose distorted emotions. This gave a nice base to work on. Even the other people in the club thanked for the theme.
The Melody
So yeah, first I started with the main melody. The one you hear here is propably the third of fourth one I finally used. The others didn’t work well, or otherwise just didn’t fit the theme. I have been wanting to use this arpeggioish melodylines for a while, but they just haven’t worked out too well. Now they did.
After the melody was done, I was thinking about simply reusing the first part of the main melody, just with a louder lead, but then I thought the second part would need it’s own melody too. Something that would follow the idea of the first part, but still be on it’s own. From the beginning I had the idea of making the song grow piece by piece until the climax and then make it fade out nicely. Now the melodies worked in it too, so I didn’t have to add as many supporting lines in there as I thought I would have to. Which is just a good thing in making the song sound clearer.
Before I started using the vocals, I had a “connecting” melody in the middle, which used a completely different style than the main parts. It sounded very nice too.
The Vocals
But then came the vocals. I had had the main part practically for a week, but I just couldn’t figure out what I would do with the breaks. I was thinking about not using any vocals, but instead going for a symphonic route. But I thought it wouldn’t express the feeling enough. And I had fallen in love with the sound of this singer, Minori Chihara. That voice is just angelic. I had been waiting for the song to be released since I heard it the first time in the EP 1 of Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon. I had already done some prework for melodylines on the vocals once a rip version of the song came. I guess I’ll have to relisten them now, if I could make another song of them.
Anyways, back to this song. The vocals were actually surprisingly easy to put in the song. All I needed to do was to lift the scale a bit. But it used the same notes as my song, so I could just put everything through autotune to make sure everything really clicked on the notes. Then the normal procedure of EQs and delays and it was done! There is only one part where I had to fade out the autotune, since there was one note that was purposefully put off scale and the autotune software would go insane because of it.
Intro and outro
Then I thought, man she sound so good, why not use the voice as the melody. And so I did. I started cutting the vocals you hear in the last third and then started matching them together. And everything just kept clicking together. The intro and outro were made in about 3 days, which is extremely quick pace for me. And now the song is something I enjoy from the first second till the last one.
Now the DL links. (Right click to download, if the left click does something funky)
Yep, it’s that time of the year again when all of the younglings start spamming e-mails and phonecalls to companies. And I have to do the same too. Well, I get to do the same.
This year I pretty much have to get a job from an IT company so I’ll get the needed studying points. Luckily I’m in so many programming projects right now that I can securely go for a summer job in a C# or similar programming company.
And then I get to be the next Bill Gates taking all of your money while walking in the jeans like Jobs himself. And in your eyes I’m like Google, since everything I do is “open source”.
Well okay, jokes aside, it would be a pretty nice thing to get a job from a big company like Microsof simply because that would mean a lot in the CV. But the main focus is to get any job. That’s the first and foremost idea.
And yeah, I’m still making music, I just don’t remember to update this place. I’ll try to start a weekly schedule soon, promise!
So yeah, 2011 is officially over in Finland, so now it’s a great time to look back and post a few best of posts. The first one is about anime.
Best anime OP: Hanasaku Iroha – Hana Iro by nano.RIPE
This is the sort of song that just works. It isn’t a song that will hit on the first go, but it just works. I started to like it around ep 5 or so. It has been on my MP3 player since then. It gave such a nice and warm feeling while listening to this 5am in summer morning while going to work. Or when cyckling back from work during the hot evenings. The song brings so many good memories.
Best anime EP: Go-Sick – Resuscitated Hope by Komine Lisa
This is seriously fighting for the first place in my best anime songs list with The World God Only Knows’ OP and Spice & Wolf’s OP. There’s such a nice combination of rock and classical. Nice changes of tempo and nice lyrics. And the song has so much power.
Best anime OST: Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon.
Overall the series is horrible, but the background music is just excellent. There’s a good combination of “movie sounds”, some DnB, some metal, and some other electronic genres.
Best male character: Takagi Akito from Bakuman.
He seemed to be the character with the most depth this year. He wasn’t the stereotypical wimpy guy, which is a huge bonus. And as a person he has pretty much in common with me, so it’s a bit of a logical pick.
Cutest female character: Yune from Ikoku Meiro no Croisee
How could a character be this cute?! It made me roll on the floor in agony.
Catgirl of the year: Yukikaze Panettone from Dog Days
Not literally a catgirl. And I could have put the whole lineup of that show here, really… But I had to pick one. And it definitely had to be her. Foxgirls are the best anyways.
Best female character: Oshimizu Nako from Hanasaku Iroha
mmm, I don’t know. Somehow she just clicked the most this year. There’s the combination of cuteness and seriousness. Errh… Yeah.
Tearjerker of the year: Ano Hana
Wow the last shows were deep. Everyone was trying so seriously to repay the debts. And then everyone is happy and… Ah.
Cutest scene: Shinryaku!? Ika Musume EP X with Chibi Ika.
I mean, seriously… Is that not cute?
Funniest show of the year: Nichijou
Some of the EPs weren’t that funny, but those that were, were sure to wake the whole house up when I watched them. How can a meat falling to the floor take such a long time and such an epic route?
The best show of 2011:
Well, this is a tough one. It’s a fight between Ano Hana, Ikoku Meiro and Hanasaku Iroha. But I guess it has to go to: Hanasaku Iroha
The show had the most depth of the year. The story was quite original and interesting from the beginning till end. The characters were good, the drawing was good, the voice actors were good. Everything just matched together here. Everyone who haven’t seen it, go see it!
So, I’m currently sitting at the Weeks on Wheel seminar, a brief teaching session on how to program software to Windows Phone 7 using programs and ideas like Visual Studio 2010.
Let’s see if I’ll keep on updating this while the day goes on!
11.15
Finally getting some in depth information on how to program with the Visual Studio.
Everything seems to be quite simple on the software. I guess this might be what I’m going to focus on during the christmas holidays…
Also.. “uu, Hello world.”
This just might require a bit of thinking to create a good UI because everything has to be shown in one large “frame” instead of many screens.
The Silverlighth & XNA combination sound quite promising. No need to create all the menus by using pixel exact points. This just might require some out of the box thinking, but… We’ll see. Maybe I’ll have to really start making that hardstyle game. Maybe this could be a good platform for it.
11:40
Everything seems to be really simplified on the code. Just by writing stackButton, you’ll easily create a row of button boxes.
Nice to see that all of the basic animation can also be done by usin some automated animations in Blend.
And now so that I won’t forget it… The tools and SDK: http://create.msdn.com/en-US/
13:15
Looking more at the Metro idea. It might actually prove to be a difficult one to implement with some apps. Stuff might get lost in the other “screens”. So back to the drawing board.
The system has some strange desing quirk, like the keyboard always coming over the software. And then there seems to be no button to close the keyboard. Then the only thing that can be over the keyboard is a little bar on the bottom which can have just a few buttons. This will really force the programs to be pretty simple. Overall it seems like the apps can’t be very complex.
13:40 Welp, the computer crashed. This is promising…
Well, it’s still over 20 days until that, but anyways! Here’s something to brighten the cold, dark days.
We haven’t had snow yet. In fact, the temperature has been over 0 C so far. Only one or two days were on minus temperature, but still this is something quite remarkable. But that’s ok, I don’t like snow so every day without snow is a good day to me.
Hopefully there will be a white christmas, though.
It took an extra week to upload this mainly due to me having to check that the vid wouldn’t go offline too easily.
I had so much fun doing this one, the actual structure and all the other big parts were done in just a few days, then it was just polishing and mixing and matching everything together.
Next up will be… Hmm… Either Zatox – Andromeda (Hardcore remix) or then a big set of Blast Doors remixes. Stay tuned!
First there was silence, then there wasn’t. Obvious.
So, first of all, I released a new song, The Summer Memories:
About a week ago I got a new led tube, Eurolite LED Bar RGB 252. It cost about 100€, but it’s already worth it. The bar has many cool features, like a soundcontrol, strobe-effect and some light changing effects. And with this I now have a better lighting system than pretty much any of the local clubs have. Only bad thing is that the power cord is extremely short so it’s a bit hard to put it in a good place.
See it in action in this video!
And then, the songs in this video..
The first one is my remix of Alexandra Stan – Mr. Saxobeat. This one should be finished in a week or so. I guess it will most likely be a blog only release since the other places would just take it down immediately. This will only need some transitions and little stuff like that so there’s not much left to do. I’m not sure whether I’ll make this 145bpm or 154bpm. Both of them sound nice, but… Dunno. 145bpm would be quite exotic these days.
The second song is “Piss in ya Pipes”, an original by me which uses a caption from Benidorm -TV-series. I still need to make an intro and an outro for this one, so it might take a little longer to get this one done.
And the last one won’t be released, atleast not before I have managed to get the CDs out.
